90 Years Union Strong

From AFSCME President Lee Saunders
2026 marks the 90th anniversary of our union — nine decades of working people coming together to build their collective power, to gain a voice on the job, and to strengthen their communities.
From the 1930s, when a group of state workers in Wisconsin banded together to protect their jobs and block political cronies from corrupting public services, to the 1.4 million members fighting today — we haven’t just survived 90 years of history, we’ve SHAPED it. To celebrate 90 years of being AFSCME strong, AFSCME has put together an amazing website with the history and timeline of AFSCME. They are also requesting members to share their story.
