MLK Day Parade | January 19, 2026

Happy MLK Day! Today, we had the pleasure of walking in the MLK Day parade to honor and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
For those of you who may not know, Dr. King spent his final days marching alongside AFSCME Local 1733 members on strike in Memphis, Tennessee after two sanitation workers, Echol Cole and Robert Walker, were crushed to death by a sanitation truck.
Dr. King believed that civil rights and labor rights are deeply linked, which is why he supported the striking workers. The audio you are hearing in the video is from his final speech in Memphis titled ‘I’ve been to the Mountaintop.’
Hearing his words is another reminder that we must continue to walk in his footsteps and continue his legacy. We must continue to fight for workers’ rights and protections, and we must continue to fight for our communities that are being oppressed and disenfranchised.
We’ve made a lot of progress since Dr. King’s famous ‘I have a dream’ speech but with ICE assaulting our communities and federal workers’ union rights being stripped away, we still have work to do.
So, every day we will continue to fight for justice with Dr. King’s voice in our heads and in our hearts.
