Vernon, CA – The 28,000 members of AFSCME District Council 36 have endorsed former Attorney General and Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra.

Becerra has more than three decades of experience serving Californians as a public servant. He has been a champion for working people in the state legislature and as a member of the United States Congress.

He comes from a union household and has a proven track record of working with labor unions and championing our causes. He is running on a platform to help Californians through the affordability crisis we are currently facing.

Veronica Gunn, President of AFSCME District Council 36 released the following statement:

“Choosing the next Governor of California is one of the most critical choices we can make this year, and Xavier Becerra is the right choice. With attacks coming from this current administration, we need a governor who is willing to fight for us, and Becerra did that as attorney general and will continue to do that as Governor.”

“He is committed to helping working families throughout the state by closing tax loopholes and making billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share to increase revenue for California, by making sure public services are not cut in our communities, and by making sure artificial intelligence doesn’t replace us.”

“We know that Xavier Becerra will be a bold and fearless leader that will stand with us. Becerra understands that public servants and working people are the backbone of our country. We are excited to vote Xavier Becerra as the next Governor of California!”
